Artist's Description

Bumblebees generally visit flowers that exhibit the bee pollination syndrome. They can visit patches of flowers up to 1 to 2 km from their colony. They tend to visit the same patches of flowers every day, as long as they continue to find nectar and pollen, a habit known as pollinator or flower constancy. While foraging, bumblebees can reach ground speeds of up to 15 meters per second.

Bumblebees use a combination of color and spatial relationships to learn from which flowers to forage. They can also detect both the presence and the pattern of electric fields on flowers, which occur due to the positive static charges generated when bees fly through the air, and take a while to leak away into the ground. They use this information to find out if a flower has been recently visited by another bee. After arriving at a flower, they extract nectar using their long tongues and store it in their crops. Many species of bumblebees also exhibit "nectar robbing", instead of inserting the mo...

In the beginning I was first inspired to pick up a camera at a very young age by my beloved grandfather. He had a dark room set up in our attic where he developed his own photos and would let me watch him work ...Sadly he passed away when i was seven, but he left a huge impact on me that will last a life time.. His love remains with me and within my own photography captures. While living in New York and working psych I suffered an unexpected spinal injury that changed my life....
